It doesn’t matter who you are, getting behind the wheel when you’re impaired is against the law. Anyone who gets into an accident will always have to face the consequences.
FOX 10 in Phoenix reports that will be the case regarding a crash between a car and a bicyclist that happened on Wednesday, July 8th, at approximately 6:45 p.m. that involved a family member of Pinal County Sheriff Mark Lamb.
Because of a potential conflict of interest, the incident will be investigated by the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office.
Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Sergeant Calbert Gillett told reporters that Cooper Lamb had been identified as the driver involved in the crash, which left the bicyclist severely injured. The name of the injured bicyclist was not released at the time of the report.
It was at the request of the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office that the investigation is turned over to the MCSO.
“The driver of the vehicle was processed for potential impairment, a warrant to draw blood was authorized, and blood evidence acquired, ” Sgt. Gillett read from the official statement.
Officials still are uncertain whether Lamb may have been impaired by drugs or alcohol at the time of the accident and are waiting on the results of a toxicology report.
As both the Pinal County and Maricopa Sheriff’s Offices are working together on the case, the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office and the Pinal County Attorney’s Office will also be working in tandem if a case is eventually brought against Cooper Lamb.
This is a developing story, and the investigation related to the crash is ongoing.
