Seven New Driving Laws in Arizona
Just when you think you’ve got driving down and all the laws and rules that come with it, you discover something new!
2015 brought a lot of change to the state of Arizona and Arizona lawmakers proposed a lot of changes to the state’s driving laws, though only a few of them actually made the cut…
Here are the seven changes that driver’s need to be keenly aware of, if you are not already:
- Motorcyclists:
They can only carry a passenger if the bike is “designed” to do so…However, lawmakers repealed a law that specifically required handrails for bike passengers….
Passengers – hold your drivers tight!
- Pedestrians
They are banned from hitting crosswalk buttons just to stop traffic. This was done in an effort to curb panhandling.
- Ape Hangers (no monkeys involved 🙂 )
They are legal on motorcycles
It was previously illegal to have handlebars above the rider’s shoulders.
- Classic Car Plates
They can be customized but only one Arizona DB-5 owner can be “007”… everyone else is a copycat, wannabe…
- Three-Wheeled Cars
They don’t require a motorcycle license…
It turns out that we’ve all been driving our Reliant Robins illegally for years, because any vehicle with three wheels in Arizona has required a motorcycle license to operate…
Ride on vigilantes…
- Defensive Driving School
This can now be done once a year!
Previously, you could only attend defensive driving school to wipe a ticket from your record once every two years…
We still HIGHLY recommend you drive responsibly regardless of your “get out of ticket” pass.
- REAL ID
Arizona is now giving people the option to get federally compliant licenses, which allow people to board airplanes and get into bars…
If you have a license with 100 year expiration, you will get turned down for entrance at the local bar.
This affects drivers as the license is only valid for eight years, unlike the previous licenses, which are good for most of your life…
At least you’re only stuck with a record of your bad hair for only 8 years…
